CEO

I’m fortunate to work with an incredible team at Morningstar Communications to help industry leaders clarify their messages, connect with the people who matter most, and change attitudes and behaviors.

With experience in multiple industries and companies – including Brewer Advertising (Y&R Advertising), Boasberg Valentine Radford and Hallmark Cards – I learned how to lead an agency before starting Morningstar Communications at age 40.

Providing strategic business counsel to CEOs and other top executives remains one of my favorite parts of the job. Evoking a philosophy I created called “Think Excellence, Not Difference,” I help companies across the country grow. I also frequently deliver keynote presentations to national, regional and local audiences, sharing my knowledge and passion for marketing and communications. I also help facilitate panel discussions, serve as an emcee, and coach executives.

I'm a lifelong learner who aims to make positive differences every day and have fun along the way. I'm involved in the Greater KC PRSA, KC IABC, Counselors Academy, Helzberg Entrepreneurial Mentoring Program, The Jewish Community Center, The Jewish Federation and Congregation Beth Torah. A graduate of the University of Kansas, I have maintained an active role with the J-School for nearly 35 years. I’m currently one of the leaders of the J-School Generations initiative. I’ve served on numerous boards and helped dozens of leading civic, cultural and social service organizations. I get great joy from helping others. I’m currently on the Turn the Page Kansas City Board, and I also serve as co-chair of the Communications Team for KC Rising.

My colleagues have recognized my work, naming me as one of only 15 SAGE (Strategic Advisors for Growth and Excellence) Counselors. I also was elected to the PRSA College of Fellows. I received KC IABC's lifetime accomplishment award, the Arthur Lowell award, and was named Greater KC PRSA's PR Professional of the Year.

Before I finished college I learned that my passion for playing sports and making music would be relegated to hobbies, and that strategic integrated communications was my destined profession. I’m an unabashed “homer” for all things KC. In my free time, I like to garden, play my bass guitar and spend time with my wife, Shanny, our two sons, Jarrod and Avi, and Raia, our rescue dog who comes to the office almost every day and serves as “Chief Stress-Relieving Officer.”
